5 % of teenagers consider themselves lesbian, bisexual or gay Approximately 5 % of teenagers consider themselves lesbian, gay or bisexual, and several adolescents know a close friend, classmate, relative or neighbor who’s nonheterosexual. Pediatricians are being asked with increasing regularity about sexual behavior and sexual orientation. In a revised clinical report entitled newly, ‘Sexual Orientation and Adolescents,’ the American Academy of Pediatrics advises pediatricians to be mindful of the needs of individuals who are gay, lesbian, bisexual, or transgendered, or who may be puzzled over their sexual orientation.Individual sessions were approximately 20 minutes long; group periods conducted for the group receiving in-person support lasted 90 minutes typically. Participants in both intervention groupings were offered weekly contact with coaches through the first three months . During the next 3 months, participants receiving in-person support were offered three regular monthly contacts , whereas the group receiving only remote control support were offered 1 call every month. For the remainder of the study, participants in the group receiving in-person support were offered two monthly contacts , and the combined group receiving only remote support stayed offered monthly calls. The coaches for the group receiving in-person support were employees of Johns Hopkins University, and the coaches for the group receiving only remote support were employees of Healthways.
